As Monday evening of May sixth arrives, the anticipation is reaching a fever pitch as celebrities make the final touches to their looks for fashion’s biggest night out: the Met Gala.

The world-famous Gala serves as a celebration of the Costume Institute's newest exhibition, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion".

Guests are spoiled with an exclusive first look at the exhibit, a curated ensemble of over 250 rare garments spanning 400 years of sartorial history.

Including archival Schiaparelli, Dior, Givenchy and more, the exhibition promises an unparalleled glimpse into the history of fashion, with cutting-edge technology allowing even the most delicate and time-worn garments to be displayed.

Utilizing video animation, light projection, AI, CGI, and other sensory marvels, the exhibition beckons guests to immerse themselves in a truly unprecedented fashion experience.

Only guests really know what goes on beyond the doors of the hallowed museum thanks to a strict no-press policy, but that’s ok… for those of us looking on from the outside, tonight is all about the red carpet.

All eyes will be on celebrities and designers, eagerly awaiting to see what they are wearing and most importantly, who will interpret the dress code of the event in the most extravagant and imaginative way.

The theme of this year's Met Gala, "The Garden of Time," draws inspiration from J.G. Ballard's 1962 short story of the same name. With the exhibition promising plenty of natural references, we can expect the same in on the red carpet, but to fully grasp the theme, let’s take a quick dive into Ballard's narrative.

The tale follows the opulent life of Count Axel and his wife, which takes place in their lush estate full of the finer things. Everything seems great at home, however, beyond the protective walls of their sanctuary lies a desolate landscape. When a menacing mob appears in the distance, coming right toward the couple’s direction, things become worrying.

As Count Axel grapples with the encroaching turmoil, he discovers a peculiar power: every time he plucks a flower from his garden, time rewinds, pushing the mob back into the horizon. But his garden is on its last legs, and with each flower gone, the Count and his wife are forced to confront the inevitable advance of the mob.

The narrative serves as a profound allegory, reflecting the fragility of beauty and power. This reflection of the perpetual cycle of creation and destruction resonates deeply in our world in many aspects.

It's a theme that seamlessly intertwines with the dichotomy of fashion—a realm where creativity and elegance collide with the sobering backdrop of dwindling resources and environmental concerns.

Beyond an exciting source of style inspiration, “The Garden of Time” theme sets the stage for thought-provoking conversations about complexities of our existence.

So, how will guests interpret the theme? Well, if we're making a safe bet, expect to see an abundance of floral and botanical-inspired looks gracing the iconic Met Gala red carpet. With the exhibition structured around three distinct "zones"—Land, Sea, and Sky—there's ample inspiration drawn from the wonders of the natural world for attendees to riff off in their attire.

Now, let's turn our attention to this year's hosts: Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth. With such star power, expectations are high in the fashion department.

Take Zendaya, for instance. She and her stylist, Law Roach, are a formidable duo when it comes to event dressing. Will Zendaya continue her enchanting romance with Loewe, or was that exclusive to her Challengers press tour? More likely she'll hit us with something fresh and exciting. Roach has already been dropping hints on Instagram, fuelling speculation among fans by posting a floral and lace Emanuel Ungaro dress.

Jennifer Lopez wowed us all with her sensual yet sophisticated Ralph Lauren dress last year. But we all know she's a master of glamour in every form, and she certainly has a soft spot for all things sparkly.

The burning question: will she opt for sleek elegance or dive headfirst into a shimmering sea of sequins? I'm leaning towards intricate beading, à la Robert Wun. However, if she decides to stick with last year's smooth and refined vibe, Harris Reed's statuesque couture would make a showstopper look.

Chris Hemsworth is the epitome of classic style, and let's be honest, with his rugged good looks, he doesn't need to go overboard with his fashion choices. Picture him in a beautifully tailored suit, maybe in brooding shades reminiscent of a stormy sky.

This could be the perfect opportunity for some method dressing informed by a healthy dose of Thor themed nostalgia. What could be more fitting to show the destructive power of nature than channelling the God of lightning and thunder himself?

We know Bad Bunny for his music, his heartthrob status, but most importantly, his unapologetic confidence in fashion. He's making waves not just with his Gucci campaigns but also with his fearless approach to experimenting with styles and gender in his clothing.

Remember his striking Jacquemus ensemble at the last Met Gala? With its jaw-dropping 26-foot-long train of fabric roses, it was an unforgettable sight. While it could have easily made a comeback this year, it's a given that celebrities wouldn't dare repeat a look.

Perhaps he'll opt for some avant-garde Margiela couture- Whatever he chooses, there's no doubt that Bad Bunny will stand out.

As the countdown to the Gala continues, we don’t have to wait long to find out, so enjoy the last hours of quiet before the storm. In the meantime, why not ease the FOMO with our pick of Met Gala inspired clothing and formalwear selection?
