Which of the world’s fashion brands are the most valuable, and what % of the market do these brands dominate?




Revenue in the fashion market is projected to reach £628 billion this year, with the luxury sector expected to grow between five and ten percent. But which fashion brands across the world are the most valuable?

Within this research, we looked at the most valuable brands and analysed their brand identity by looking at Google search results and social media data to reveal which of the biggest brands dominate the footwear, clothing or jewellery market.

We also took a look at year-on-year Google search volumes, revealing which brands are becoming more popular over time. Plus, social media data which exposes which brands are on the popularity decline.

We’ve revealed the most popular brands around by looking further into the search increases. Many top trainer brands have benefited from celebrity endorsements and social media advertising, appealing to fans worldwide. The Adidas Originals Samba shoe has recorded over 627 million views on TikTok, thanks to celebs like Harry Styles, Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid sporting the model.

Nike is the Highest Value Fashion Brand in the World, with a Market Share of £30.5B



1.Nike

Brand Score: 9.87 out of 10

Nike comes first with an almost-perfect score of 9.87 out of 10. Nike has attained a well-established and strong brand identity by inspiring the world’s athletes for decades and obtaining partnerships with sports stars like Michael Jordan and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Nike is among the 50 most valuable companies globally, with a market share of £30.5 billion. In the last year, there were 367.40 million searches globally, and it's just as popular on social media as the brand has amassed over 305.5 million Instagram followers, outperforming any other brand. The brand also has over 4.8 million followers on TikTok. 


2. Zara

Brand Score: 9.75 out of 10

Our runner-up brand is Zara, scoring 9.75 out of 10. The Spanish multi-national retail clothing chain has a brand value of £11.2 billion and is one of the most successful global fast fashion retail brands competing on design and styles. Our data revealed that it is the most searched-for brand out of 100 successful fashion companies, recording 386.50 million searches in the last year. The brand is also one of the most popular on TikTok, with a cult following of 9.1 million people. Zara also holds an Instagram following of 60.9 million.


3. Louis Vuitton

Brand Score: 9.67 out of 10

The French luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton ranked third, scoring 9.67 out of 10. With the highest brand value behind Nike at £26.7 billion, Louis Vuitton prides itself on exceptional products that boast world-class craftsmanship and a lifelong guarantee, and every product is individually handmade. There were 118.06 million brand searches in the last 12 months, and the luxury name is also hugely popular on social media. Collecting an Instagram following of 54.6 million and on TikTok with 11 million, Louis Vuitton is the world’s third most valuable fashion brand.

Longchamp is the Most in-demand Fashion Brand Globally, with a 40% Search Increase in the Last Year


 

1. Longchamp

Search Increase Between 2022 and 2023: 40%

Longchamp is a French leather goods company founded in Paris in 1948, which pioneered luxury leather-covered pipes before expanding into small leather goods. The brand is well known for its ready-to-wear pieces inspired by equestrian heritage. The brand has an estimated value of £910.7 million and received 9,303 searches between 2021 and 2022, rising to almost 16,000 searches by August 2023, an increase of over 40%. 

Longchamp’s unique reputation for affordable luxury handbags has drawn in shoppers far and wide. The Le Pliage tote bag is everywhere on TikTok, recording 74.5 million views, and its similar style has been compared to the Goyard Saint Louis PM tote spotted on the app. But, its hefty price tag of over £1,000 for resin-coated linen has inspired shoppers to opt for the Longchamp dupe.

2. New Balance

Search Increase Between 2022 and 2023: 36%

New Balance is one of the world's major sports footwear and apparel manufacturers, and it strives to put quality and performance first, ensuring all of its shoes and apparel feature high levels of craftsmanship and durability. The successful trainer brand recorded the second-highest search increase of 36% in the last year, and this could be thanks to its iconic chunky kicks being sported by the likes of Hayley Bieber, Kendall Jenner, and Rihanna. Some of the brand’s most popular sneaker models include the 550, a unique lifestyle shoe and the classic 990 trainers, which first debuted in 1982.

3. Primark

Search Increase Between 2022 and 2023: 28%

Primark Stores Limited is an Irish multinational fast fashion retailer and one of the largest and most popular UK clothing stores. The brand aims to provide affordable choices for everyone, from quality everyday essentials to stand-out styles across women's, men's and kids wear, as well as beauty, homeware and accessories. The brand has witnessed a 28% increase in searches over the last year, and in advertising, Primark shines for its talent to create a buzz with few resources. The Irish retailer relies on apps like TikTok to spread the word about new trending fashion items and store announcements without many costs.

Bogner is the Least Valuable Fashion Brand in the World

 

1. Bogner

Brand Score: 0.48 out of 10

Bogner is a leading luxury sports lifestyle brand and also a ski outfitter thanks to the roots of its founder, nordic skier Willy Bogner Senior. The classic ski wear brand scored 0.48 out of 10, losing points for its TikTok followers, of which there were only 25. The brand has a following of 104,100 on Instagram, among the lowest on our list. However, Bogner recorded 1.38 million searches and has a value of over £588.6 million as of 2020, beating many other fashion brands.

2. Elie Taharie

Brand Score: 0.54 out of 10

Placing second in the running for the least valuable brands is Elie Taharie, a global fashion brand that's been a professional staple in womenswear for over 45 years. The brand scored 0.54 out of 10 and lost points for its annual searches in 2023 (295,800 searches). Elie Taharie also has a smaller social following than other brands, with 83,900 Instagram followers. Although, the brand has a higher value than others in the bottom three (£708.7 million).

3. Breguet

Brand Score: 0.71 out of 10

Tieing in third place are Breguet, a Swiss luxury watch company, and the luxury women's designer clothing brand, ESCADA, scoring 0.71 out of 10 in the ranking. Breguet holds a market share of £571.3 million and recorded 907,500 searches. ESCADA holds a smaller value of £543.9M but recorded more searches, with almost 2 million globally.

Methodology

We began by making a list of the world’s most valuable fashion brands, according to Fashion United. We also took each brand’s value as of 2020. The brand values were converted to GBP using XE. This data is correct as of 02/10/2023.

We used Google Keyword Planner to gather the number of searches in the last 12 months, and we calculated the search changes between the years to determine the top trending fashion brands. This data is correct as of 27/09/2023.

Each brand’s number of TikTok and Instagram followers was taken on 01/10/2023.

Each fashion brand was ranked based on its score for their brand value, social media factors, and search volume and was normalised against each other to receive a score out of 10.
